Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

There must be something special about a theater company that has received large checks from, among many others, Anne Murray and Paul Newman, and which has had both a television movie and an Emmy-nominated documentary made about it.

And there is something special because this company–the Famous People Players–is a group of young Canadian artists, most of whom are mentally handicapped. Not only do the players perform, but the company also provides self-improvement courses and training for prospective artists.

Their show, ”A Little Like Magic,” has the unseen artists manipulating life-size fluorescent puppets and props under ultraviolet light. It will be making its Broadway debut at the Lyceum Theater Oct. 17 and there`ll be a gala benefit Oct. 23.
