Joan Beck in her Sept. 18 column described critics of the proposed stepped up war against drugs as ”a bunch of adolescents smart-mouthing off to each other after one more parental diatribe.”

Stephen Chapman in his Sept. 17 column speaks almost fondly of

”relatively benign drugs, like marijuana” and claims this new effort against drugs will fail because it will be ”perpetuating ignorance and indulging hypocrisy.” It is Mr. Chapman who appears to be one of the adolescents.
