UAL Inc. registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a public offering of 5 million common shares, to be sold in this country and internationally. The Chicago-based parent of United Airlines currently has about 45.1 million common shares outstanding. UAL said the offering would broaden its equity base and facilitate additional borrowings.
