Britain`s Chancellor of the Exchequer Nigel Lawson reiterated that the time isn`t ripe for Britain to join the exchange rate mechanism of the European Monetary System. ”I think there are arguments on both sides,” he was quoted as saying. ”We shall take a judgment in the light of the evidence. My own personal view is that the time will come when we will join it. That time has not come yet.”
