The Hasenfus case, involving a captured paramilitary pilot engaged in covert operations in Nicaragua with the tacit approval (”wink and shrug”) of Washington, serves to illustrate the complexity faced in establishing a so-called link between liberation movements involved in terrorist activity and their sponsoring governments. Amidst predictable State Department denials of any official involvement is an ironic illumination of denials previously furnished by Syria, Iran and Libya. Let him with eyes see.
