I am continually amazed at the strange arguments brought forth against the Strategic Defense Initiative. Joan Morrone (Voice, Oct. 30) asks, ”Can deflecting enemy missiles stop radiation from destroying the whole world?”

What radiation? Every one of the proposed SDI weapons would work by destroying warheads, not deflecting them. There will be no nuclear explosion –and therefore, no radiation–after a warhead has been cooked by a particle beam, drilled through by a laser or smashed by a rail gun slug.
