Gov. James Thompson Monday named a 47-member task force, co-chaired by his wife, Jayne, to study the day-care needs of working parents. Mrs. Thompson, also executive vice president of the Mid-America Committee and an attorney, will chair the task force along with Elliot Lehman, chief executive officer of Fel-Pro Inc. Others on the task force include corporate, academic, philanthropic and community leaders. In announcing the task force, Thompson said that 6 out of every 10 mothers of pre-school and school-age children are in the labor force. ”With that many children and their parents involved,”
Thompson said, ”family and community stability as well as employee effectiveness are heavily influenced by the availability of day-care services for working mothers and fathers.”
