It is well known that deception weaves a tangled web, but only in the United States could a web reach such heights of the ridiculous!
Only in the United States would a governing body make it illegal for a country to defend itself. In history, I know of only one other example. The Roman senate refused to supply the necessary funds for defending against the barbarians and Rome fell. In Rome, it was a deterioration of character. Here, I charitably credit it to stupidity. I hate to think that loyalty to a partisan party could be exalted above loyalty to our country.
Cutting off one`s nose to spite one`s face is too mild to describe the silliness of our Congress. I was amused when one CBS reporter on the morning news asked one sanctimonious Democrat, in association with an interview with New York Sen. Moynihan, ”Are you saying the 4.5 billion we give Israel should be cut?”
”Oh, no!” he replied, ”Not that!” The lawmaker was saying, in effect, ”It is OK for the United States to be held up to ridicule throughout the world, but don`t tamper with our local Jewish political contributions!” Hypocrisy, Congress is thy name!
The bottom line is that Congress is shamefully interfering with the responsibility of the President to defend our country.
