Charity begins–and ends–at home with Brad Niemann, Glenbrook South`s machine-like free-throw shooter.
Niemann reached another pinnacle in free-throw shooting Friday night when he stepped to the charity stripe 13 times and converted all 13 attempts while leading Glenbrook South to a 69-57 Central Suburban North victory over Maine West in Glenview. He finished with 33 points.
Niemann has converted 72 consecutive free throws over a two-year span, sending him streaking past former Indiana Mr. Basketball Steve Alford into third place on the all-time high school national list. Alford was third with 64 in a row.
Niemann, who began the season with a string of 13 in a row carrying over from the previous season, has made 59 straight this season.
A 6-foot-2-inch senior guard, he has not missed a free throw since Feb. 19, 1986.
