Your Dec. 29 editorial ”Getting neutral toward South Africa” was truly outrageous. Why have you designated the African National Congress as the

”leadership of South Africa`s future?” There are countless, legitimate anti-apartheid groups, like Chief Buthelezi`s one-million-member KwaZulu movement.

But no, The Chicago Tribune prefers the violence and terror of a small group dominated by hard-core communists. An ANC takeover in South Africa would lead to great bloodshed with ”necklacing” the preferred method of justice.

Must South Africans suffer the same misery and death inflicted on other Africans living under communist rule? Your short-sighted answer is an emphatic ”Yes!” Now one can understand why South Africa placed restrictions on the press.
