Recent publicity about the impending pay raises for federal lawmakers recalls an old story about a boy and his father witnessing the opening of a joint session of Congress. After the invocation, the boy asked, ”Does the minister pray for the Congress?” ”No,” replied the father. ”He takes one look at the Congress, then prays for the country.”
With Congress hell-bent for election and another multibillion-dollar deficit, it might be a good idea for all of us, including the chaplain, to pray for the Congress!
