Ronald Kotulak`s article on the cost of teenage sex cut straight to the heart of a very difficult and vital issue, and I thank him for his insights. Unfortunately, the photographs chosen to accompany the article illustrated precisely one of the problems that Kotulak was highlighting– the media`s irresponsible message to teens ”that sex is romantic, exciting, titillating . . . ” To see two healthy, affluent models in a motion picture-like embrace was nothing short of damaging to the content and potential impact of the article.
Perhaps a photograph of a pregnant teenager with her social worker would have been more appropriate–and responsible.
