Marty Blazek had his own cheering section Friday, and the Rosary senior didn`t disappoint. He had 43 points in a 102-88 victory over Northeastern Illinois to become the all-time leading scorer in Illinois college history.

”His parents rented a bus and brought 50 of his closest relatives and neighbors,” said coach Bill Brucks.

Blazek needed 24 points to break the record of 2,914 set by Loyola`s Alfredrick Hughes. When Blazek got his 2,915th point, with 2:58 left in the first half, the game was stopped and he was presented with the ball and a trophy.

There also was plenty of support from the officials at Rosary, a college run by nuns from the Sinsinawa Dominican order.

”Every Dominican nun this side of the Mississippi was here,” joked Brucks.

”The team had an assist pool, with the guy winning who fed him the tiebreaking basket. They were feeding him like crazy, with every guy hoping to win the pool.”

Rosary is 15-13, 6-6. NEIU is 6-22, 4-8.
