The citizens of Louisville and Jefferson County, Ky., have been commemorating the 50-year anniversary fo the 1937 Ohio River flood.
It`s been a time to recall what got us through one of the worst natural disasters in our history, even rivaling the 1974 tornado when I was Louisville mayor.
Chicago got us through, along with 14 other cities who pitched in with the relief effort. The police protection, medical care, blankets and cots from these cities came when times were tough everywhere.
Thanks to you, our community came back better than ever. Fifty years later, your friends here remember your great spirit with the deepest gratitude.
