The reality of salaries between entry-level and more- experienced architects is quite different from what Carol Kleiman`s article ”Job” (Feb. 8) leads readers to believe. Ms. Kleiman does not attribute the $28,000-entry-level salary to a particular source; I wonder where she got her information. In fact, even one of the top-paying architectural firms in Chicago, Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, does not pay such salaries to its entry-level architects.

Though I agree with Stanley Tigerman that architecture is ”a noble calling,” I wonder if he boosts his ego and has fun at the expense of entry- level architects in his firm who earn $6-$7 per hour and summer employees who volunteer their time and talent for no salary at all.
