Lewis H. Lapham in his Feb. 12 article denounced Ronald Reagan for not being a real president, but simply an actor.
He claims Reagan`s administration ”was always a make-believe thing, a masquerade, a stage-set, a government of let`s pretend. Reagan is an actor, not a statesman.”
Where is Mr. Lapham`s sense of humor? Doesn`t he realize that in today`s world of television all politicians and public figures in every conceivable field of activity are actors? Didn`t Shakespeare write, ”All the world`s a stage and all the men and women in it are merely players”?
Could it be that Mr. Lapham and others like him are simply jealous that Mr. Reagan is a better actor than most of us?
