The publication of media polls in the last few days of an election campaign is, in my opinion, an absolute obscenity because polls at that time are usually self-fulfilling. The fact that they were close to the final results was, I believe, attributable to a ”bandwagon” psychology and an

”it`s-no-use-so-why-bother-to-vote” attitude that took over and influenced the vote.

I think Jane Byrne was right in protesting the publication of those polls and that the polls did wind up affecting the election results.
