Are all those rumors about what goes on on the set of ”Moonlighting”
true–dueling egos, temper tantrums, etc.? Yes, says the March Ladies Home Journal, citing chapter and verse from Cybill Shepherd`s less-than-charming ways: throwing a stick at a fellow actor, screaming at a child actress and, best of all, turning on an autograph-seeking fan and snapping: ”Leave me alone. I have a right to be a bitch.” For his part, Bruce Willis stands by his credo, ”Live fast, die young and leave clean underwear.”
James Brown shares his insights into John Belushi in his autobiography,
”James Brown: The Godfather of Soul” (Macmillan). Brown, who worked with the late comedian on ”The Blues Brothers,” says Belushi was ”a man with so much talent that it was hard for him to define himself. I think one of the things that got to him was that he was putting on weight; he did not want to be fat.” After Belushi died, Brown talked with Belushi`s friend Dan Aykroyd: ”He told me what he thought was bothering John in his last days–that show business was stressful anyway, that John had a lot of heavy pressures on him at the end and just tried to escape them through drugs.”
How times have changed. ”I`ll Buy That!” a 50-year retrospective by the editors of Consumer Reports compares the five editions that span 40 years of
Dr. Benjamin Spock`s advice to parents. Back when the paperback sold for a quarter, new parents were told to ”trust” themselves. The 1976 edition referred to the child as ”she” as well as ”he.” And the latest, 1985, edition addresses such issues as single-parent families, child abuse, eating disorders, the creation of ”superkids” and how to deal with a child`s fear of nuclear war.
