I have read with interest the remarks of William J. Haldorf regarding your editorial ”Pulling our seat belts tighter.”

A picture in the Feb. 14 Tribune was captioned in part, ”A survivor of a fatal crash . . . sits amid the wreckage.” The driver was killed after his van hit a 10-inch curb and flipped over. He was thrown 110 feet from the vehicle; the passenger who was wearing a seat belt was unharmed.

I believe this picture of the unfortunate accident really says all that can be said about using a seat belt. If you do use one, there is a 50/50 change you can walk away from an accident. Not using one, you face death or severe, costly injury.
