Tony Randall, tired of being offered roles he terms ”only variations of my `Odd Couple` and `Love, Sidney` characters,” is doing something about the situation. He`s producing a movie–in which he`ll play a killer.
He has purchased film rights to Simon Brett`s new suspense novel, ”A Shock to the System”–about a man who commits perfect murders to rid his life of inconvenient or annoying people.
The story, he says, is ”deadly serious.” But, he adds, ”I believe it lends itself to a more comedic treatment”–and that`s exactly what he has in mind.
Randall plans to have the big-screen ”Shock” in production ”sometime in 1987.” But before that, he will direct his first Broadway play, Muriel Resnick`s ”Let`s Lunch,” for James Nederlander.
He has just started the search for his ”Lunch” leads and expects to have the show in rehearsals before the end of the year.
