1986–Acquired from Pittsburgh July 23 in exchange for first baseman-outfielder Bobby Bonilla. . . . Originally assigned to Triple-A Buffalo after the trade, but the Sox recalled him less than 24 hours later when pitcher Joel McKeon was hospitalized with hepatitis. . . . He made his American League debut July 26 at Baltimore, pitching the first four innings in a 2-1 loss. He didn`t get a decision. . . . He remained in the starting rotation for the rest of the season, missing just one start in early September with a stiff neck. . . . DeLeon finished 4-5 with the Sox, but had an impressive 2.96 ERA.

Personal/Miscellaneous–Pittsburgh`s third-round selection in the June, 1979, free agent draft. . . . Born in the Dominican Republic, DeLeon moved to Perth Amboy, N.J., with his family in 1972. He attended Perth Amboy High School but dropped out during his junior year to return to the Dominican Republic.
