Worst job: I was a furniture mover for a while.

The last good movie I saw was: ”The Best Years of Our Lives,” with Fredric March.

I stay home to watch: Reruns of ”The Honeymooners” and ”The Twilight Zone.”

The book I`ve been recommending lately is: ”The Counter Life,” by Phillip Roth.

Nicknames: Matty now, Monkey when I was a kid.

Favorite performer: Marlon Brando.

Favorite childhood memory: Summers with my family in Ireland, where we owned a house.

Personal heroes: My father, James Broderick; Charlie Chaplin; and Willie Mays.

I`ve never been able to: Dunk a basketball.

I`d give anything to meet: The Pope.

If I just had more time, I`d: Take more time off to just sit around.

The one thing I can`t stand is: Liars.

I knew I was a grown-up when I: First went to a movie alone. It was

”Heaven Can Wait,” with Warren Beatty and Julie Christie. I was 13.

My most irrational fear: I`m a little claustrophobic.

The worst time of my life: When my father died. I was 20 then.

My friends like me because: I`m nice to them and I`m sort of funny.

Behind my back they say: ”He`s mean to us and he`s not funny.”

If I couldn`t be an actor, I`d love to be: A painter.

My most humbling experience: Once when I was about 10 years old, I was swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, and a really strong current pulled me under. Someone had to save me.

Major accomplishment: Finding an apartment in New York.
