The Freeman Cos. has opened what it said is the country`s largest trade show facility under one roof in the renovated Alden Catalog Building, 5040 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago. The 220,000-square-foot rehab includes 20,000 square feet of office space to handle exhibitor services and sales as well as 200,000 square feet of warehouse space. The building contains additional space that can be used for expansion, the company said.
U. of I. takes Near West space
The University of Illinois at Chicago has leased 23,750 square feet of offices for its educational assistance program at 322 S. Green St., a renovated five-story, 88,350-square-foot loft building in the Westgate Mill District of the city`s Near West Side. Frain Camins & Swartchild represented the building`s owner, 322 Green Street Partners, in lease negotiations. Equis Realty represented the university.
Palmer offices 90% leased
L.J. Sheridan & Co. reports the Palmer House Office Center in downtown Chicago is more than 90 percent leased 14 months after Sheridan took over as management and leasing agent. The 14-story, 51,000-square-foot office center at 27 E. Monroe St. is owned by Hilton Hotels Corp. and recently was refurbished as part of a $60 million renovation of the Palmer House Hotel complex. Annual office rents start at $17.50 per square foot.
Ad agency signs on Ontario
Starmark Advertising has signed a long-term lease valued at more than $3 million for 16,000 square feet at 240 E. Ontario St., Chicago, accroding to Steven Rubin, director of marketing for Superior Investment and Development Corp. SIDCOR is the renovator of the five-story building into which Starmark, a firm specializing in business-to-business advertising, will move its national headquarters in mid-year. Cushman & Wakefield of Illinois Inc. represented Starmark.
Modelmaker signs in Glenview
Monogram Models Inc., a manufacturer of hobby kits and models, has leased 44,400 square feet of office/warehouse space at 1870 Elmdale in north suburban Glenview. The company, which also has production facilities in Morton Grove and Des Plaines, was represented in the transaction by Frain Camins & Swartchild Inc. Nardi & Co. represented the undisclosed owner.
Redi Strip buys Roselle facility
Redi Strip Inc., a metal stripping company, has purchased a 44,400-square-foot building at 100 W. Central Ave. in northwest suburban Roselle. Paine/Wetzel represented Redi Strip and Baird & Warner represented the seller, Midland Properties, in the transaction. Asking price was $1.1 million. The actual selling price was withheld.
Corkill deal in Arlington Hts.
Corkill Electrical Co., an electrical contractor, has purchased the 1621 E. Carboy building in northwest suburban Arlington Heights. The firm will occupy 18,000 square feet and lease out the balance of the 39,500-square-foot office and warehouse facility. Paine/Wetzel Associates Inc. represented Corkill in the transaction. Progressive Realty Associates represented the seller, Great West Life Assurance.
Baird to lease Arbor Creek
Baird & Warner`s corporate group has been appointed exclusive leasing agent for Arbor Creek Business Center, a business park being developed on 111 acres at Aptakisic Road and Barclay Boulevard in northwest suburban Buffalo Grove. Arbor Creek, a development of Klefstad Cos. Inc. of Chicago, is slated to contain 1.5 million square feet of industrial and warehouse space. Twenty- seven sites will be built or sold. The center is scheduled to open this spring.
Ceco signs in Elk Grove
The door division of Ceco Corp. has leased 40,000 square feet at 2601 Allan Dr. in northwest suburban Elk Grove Village for use as a warehouse. The multi-year lease was signed with Trammell Crow Co., owner of the property. Cushman & Wakefield of Illinois Inc. represented Ceco in the transaction. Ceco will move its door division from Bensenville in mid-1987.
Cabot hires Booth/Hansen
Cabot, Cabot & Forbes has appointed Booth/Hansen & Associates as architect for the first speculative office building to be constructed at Conway Park in north suburban Lake Forest. Cabot is expected to break ground for the $15 million, 100,000-square-foot, three-story structure this spring, with occupancies slated for late 1987. Conway Park is a 233-acre office campus at the Tri-State Tollway and Ill. Hwy. 60.
Equest buys Rockford mall
Equest Real Estate Corp. has purchased the 11th Street Plaza shopping center in Rockford. Equest, an affiliate of the Lebovic Realty Group, Lincolnwood, said it plans to eventually expand the 108,000-square-foot center, which currently is anchored by an Eagle Food Store, Osco Drug Store and Hardee`s Restaurant. Lebovic was sole broker in the transaction.
Inkmaker expands in suburb
Darwin Realty & Development Corp. has announced the sale of a 27,700-square-foot industrial building at 616 E. Brook St. in northwest suburban Arlington Heights to Alden & Ott Printing Ink Co. The building, for which the asking price was $875,000, will be used by Alden & Ott for expansion. Darwin represented Alden and Bennett & Kahnweiler Inc. represented the undisclosed seller in the transaction.
Narco builds in Carol Stream
Narco Construction Ltd. has started a 40,000-square-foot manufacturing and headquarters facility for Packaging Personified Inc. in the Carol Stream Industrial Park in the western suburb. Packaging Personified, a printer and converter of flexible film, will move its operations from Addison to the 1,100-acre industrial park on Kehoe Boulevard west of Gary Avenue early this year.
Good posts 12% sales gain
Sheldon Good & Co.`s fiscal 1986 sales topped $124.6 million, the Chicago-based real estate firm said, marking a 12 percent increase over 1985 results. Sheldon Good, president of the firm, said sales have grown at a 12 percent annual rate for four consecutive years. The 22-year-old company has 26 employees in Chicago and has recently expanded operations outside Illinois.

Dearborn Construction and Development has broken ground for Rosel Plaza Shopping Center, a 37,500-square-foot project at Lake Street and Rodenburg Road in northwest suburban Roselle. The first phase of the project will be anchored by a Convenient Food Mart and is scheduled to open this spring. The architect for the development is SBA of Chicago.
Packaging firm in Bedford Pk.
Prairie Packaging Co. has signed a long-term lease with an option to buy for an 85,000-square-foot facility at 7207 S. Mason Ave. in southwest suburban Bedford Park. Van C. Argiris & Co. was the broker in the transaction, along with Bennett & Kahnweiler Inc.
New offices for Abbott unit
Abbott International Ltd., a division of Abbott Laboratories, has signed a 62,000-square-foot lease at Bannockburn Lake Office Plaza III in north suburban Bannockburn. The 106,000-square-foot building is fully leased, and occupancy is expected in April, according to Allen Pesman, managing partner of Bannockburn Park Concepts Inc., the developer of the office park on Waukegan Road just south of Half Day Road.
Peterson Glass buys in Niles
A 16,500-square foot building at 7042 N. Milwaukee Ave. in north suburban Niles has been sold to Peterson Glass Co. The property will be used for offices and warehousing. HTO Real Estate Services Inc. represented both Peterson and the seller, LoVerde Contractors, in the transaction.
Preservationists set meeting
Historic architecture of the Mississippi riverfront community of Quincy will highlight the seventh Statewide Preservation Conference scheduled for June 5-7 by the Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois (LPCI), Illinois Association of Historic Preservation Commissions (IAHPC), Quincy Preservation Commission and Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. Workshops will address economic development, historic preservation and tourism, rural preservation, and setting up preservation organizations. Conference attendees also will have opportunities to visit nearby Carthage and Nauvoo, Ill.; Hannibal, Mo., and Keokuk, Iowa. Registration will cost $15 for LPCI and IAHPC members and $20 for non-members and does not include room and board. Apartments started in Naperville
Construction is underway on Iroquois Club, a 272-unit apartment project in west suburban Naperville. Financing for the development was arranged by Cambridge Realty Capital of Illinois. Ltd., and consists of a $19 million fixed-rate construction loan and a $19 million first mortgage. The developers of Iroquois Club, Stanley Brashears and James McGinn of William E. Gahlberg and Associates in Oak Brook, expect the first units to become available in the spring of 1988.
New industrial park in Lansing
First National Realty & Development Co. of Chicago has broken ground for an industrial-distribution park in south suburban Lansing that will include a 460,000-square-foot warehouse-distribution center for Highland Superstores. Highland will employ up to 200 persons there. When completed, the 65-acre industrial park at 175th Street and Torrence Avenue will contain 2 million square feet of buildings, according to First National, which is nearing completion of the 573,173-square-foot Landings shopping center immediately to the west. Land planner and architectural coordinator for the industrial project is Lawrence Design Collaborative, Chicago.
New offices in Wood Dale
Construction has begun on the Thorndale Business Center, 925 Dillon St., in west suburban Wood Dale. The project of Anderson-Allabastro & Associates, an Elk Grove Village architecture and development firm, will contain six 2,400-square-foot units when completed. Indust-Realty Inc. has been named exclusive leasing agent for the property, where first occupancies are expected this spring.
Sheridan on industrial binge
Robert Sheridan & Partners, a real estate investment firm based in New York and Chicago, has announced that it will seek to acquire $100 million worth of industrial property across the United States in 1987. Primarily a converter of luxury apartments to condominiums, Sheridan is entering the industrial property market in order to diversify its portfolio, according to managing partner Robert Sheridan. The company is looking at buildings in Hartford and Dallas, as well as Chicago and New York.
ITW/Nexus takes space
ITW/Nexus has signed a long-term lease for nearly 25,000 square feet of office and warehouse space at Highpoint Business Center, a Vantage Companies development in west suburban Wood Dale. The firm will use the Highpoint location as a sales and distribution center for its fastener products. ITW/
