As the wife of a full professor, I take strong exception to part of the series concerning inflation in university costs.

The authors have completely forgotten the dictum ”Publish or perish.”

During the past Easter recess (five days), my husband, who teaches three courses and directs Ph.D. candidates, spent approximately 50 hours at his desk, including six hours on Easter, preparing, writing and typing a research project.

If you think that all he has to do is teach, direct, grade and prepare classes (without clerical help) for 110 students, you have no comprehension of what is involved in the meaning of the term professor. He works harder and longer than most executives and earns far less money.
