”Six Against the Rock,” an NBC movie based on the true story of six convicts who, in 1946, battled incredible odds–and the U.S. Marines–in the most desperate escape ever attempted at Alcatraz, will air from 8-10 p.m. Monday, May 18, on Channel 5.

The action-drama stars David Carradine, Richard Dysart (”L.A. Law”), Charles Haid (”Hill Street Blues”), Howard Hesseman (”Head of the Class”), David Morse (”St. Elsewhere”), Paul Sanchez and Jan-Michael Vincent.

Carradine portrays Coy, a prisoner serving 25 years for bank robbery, who instigates an escape that has taken him eight years to plan. Alongside him are Dutch Cretzer (Hesseman), a convicted murderer serving a life sentence; Marvin Hubbard (Morse), Coy`s loyal friend and a former prison escapee from the backwoods of Alabama; ”Crazy” Sam Shockley (Haid), an eccentric thief doing life for kidnaping; Druando (Sanchez), a 19-year-old serving 99 years for murder; and Buddy Thompson (Jan Michael-Vincent), an eight-time prison escapee serving a life sentence for the murder of a policeman.

A last-minute snag in Coy`s plan leads to the death of a cellblock guard, and an outraged Warden Johnston (Dysart) decides to call in the Marines to restore order.
