I have just sealed a batch of envelopes with one of those tiny sticks of glue with the screw-top cap which have become so popular in offices everywhere. The label on its container reads ”Made in West Germany.”

What with all the emphasis on buying American-made products, are we able to believe that American manufacturing ingenuity has disintegrated so badly that we no longer can compete with foreign countries in mass producing one-ounce tubes of glue?
