Raymond Coffey described the problem regarding the Chippewa Indians and the treaties on fishing rights in a very interesting report.

I disagree with his last paragraph: ”Also, I wonder if it matters a lot to a fish whether they head for the frying pan on the point of a spear or a hook.”

Coffey disdainfully looks upon spearing spawning fish as a joke. Sport fishing is a serious economical part of the survival of many people residing in northern Wisconsin. A very good percentage of sport fishermen boat and land game fish. Many trophy-sized ”lunkers” are released for further growth and the possible event of another thrill in the catch!
