Recently it was the time of year for doing income tax reports. When I do mine, I review all my expenditures during the prior year hoping to find tax deductible items. I`m always impressed by the amount of money I spent on things that, in retrospect, I didn`t really want or need. I always resolve to change my spending patterns.
The world, as a whole, ought to do the same thing once in awhile. For example:
1. One percent of what is spent annually on armaments could end world hunger.
2. For one-third the cost of operating a Trident missile-type submarine, we can eliminate malaria throughout the world.
3. The world spends $240 million on cigarettes every day. Only $80 million per day would end the world`s problems with drinking water and hygiene.
What should our priorities be?
