— 1957–With the Sox leading 4-3 in the 9th and 10 seconds left–both the Sox and the host Orioles had agreed the game would end, no matter what, at 10:20 p.m. so the Sox could catch a train to Boston–Paul LaPalme serves up a home run to Dick Williams to tie game 4-4. Game is replayed in its entirety later in season and Sox lose.

— 1967–Off day. Sox are 19-8, 1st place, 1 1/2 games ahead.

— 1977–Sox get 3-run homer from Oscar Gamble in 5-run 2d inning against Dennis Leonard and whip Royals 7-4 in Chicago.

CUBS

— 1957–Cub-Dodger game rained out second straight day at Wrigley Field. Cubs 7-18, last place, 10 1/2 games out.

— 1967–Off day. Reacquire outfielder George Altman from Tacoma farm and option first baseman Clarence Jones to same club. It`s Altman`s third stint with the club that originally signed him. Cubs are 16-13, 4th place, 5 games out.

— 1977–Off day. Cubs are 21-11, 2d place in NL East, 1 1/2 games behind Pittsburgh and a game ahead of St. Louis.
