As a lover of all great art from Rembrandt to de Kooning, I was stunned by critic Alan Artner`s comments in the May 17 Tribune. To say, ”Realism persists in every century, casting up forms of sentimentality that are most appropriate to the pieties of the age,” is an unbelievable
oversimplification.
A simple mind must classify works of art, instead of viewing each work individually.
