— 1957–Dick Drott strikes out 7 and, with late relief help from Turk Lown, beats Phillies 7-3 in Philadelphia. Ernie Banks hits tie-breaking homer in 8th. Chuck Tanner goes 0-for-3 in Cub debut. Game 2 is called because of curfew with score 4-4 in 10th.

— 1967–With score tied 5-5 in 9th, Ernie Banks singles with bases loaded and Cubs top Mets 6-5 at Wrigley Field. Dick Radatz gains 1st NL victory and 1st big-league victory since Sept. 5, 1965.

— 1977–Jose Cardenal`s bases-loaded squeeze bunt scores Mick Kelleher in 11th to give Cubs and Bruce Sutter a 1-0 victory over Giants at Wrigley Field. Bill Bonham and Ed Halicki had dueled through 9 innings before relievers took over.

SOX

— 1957–Bob Nieman`s homer in 8th helps Baltimore win opener 7-5 at Comiskey Park, and Billy O`Dell, making 1st start of year, throws 6-hitter and fans 11 to beat Sox 5-0 in Game 2, cutting Sox`s AL lead to 4 1/2 games. Sox still without Luis Aparicio and Larry Doby (leg injuries).

— 1967–Walter Williams goes 3-for-5 and Ken Berry`s single in 9th ties game 1-1, but Horace Clarke singles home winning run off Bob Locker in 10th and Yankees win 2-1 in New York.

— 1977–Wayne Nordhagen`s 2-out pinch single scores Alan Bannister with go-ahead run in 11th to give Sox and reliever Larry Anderson–just up from Triple-A Iowa–a 4-3 victory in Arlington, Tex. Bannister goes 5-for-6.
