Madison Street from 79th Street to Joliet Road will be widened and resurfaced and get new curbs and gutters and a better storm sewer system as a result of a joint venture involving the Villages of Burr Ridge and Willowbrook, the state, Du Page County and Downers Grove Township.
The Willowbrook Village Board on Monday unanimously approved spending $110,000 as the village`s share of the $600,000 improvement project.
The remaining costs will be shared by the state ($203,000), the township ($163,000), Burr Ridge ($80,000) and the county ($50,000).
The purpose of Willowbrook`s participation is to construct a storm sewer under Int. Hwy. 55 and bypass the delicate drain-tile system, said Village Adminstrator Bernard Oglietti.
Installing the new storm sewer will ”help resolve the storm-water management problem,” said Village President Eugene Noose.
Other improvements include lowering the roadway to increase the clearance under the I-55 overpass and channeling the intersection at Madison and Joliet Road to give Madison 15-foot through-traffic lanes in each direction and one 12-foot dual-purpose lane.
