Sammy Blue Chip, driven by Tom Harmer, turned in the fastest mile in 39 years of harness racing at Sportsman`s Park, a 1:53 3/5 in the $20,000 Sampson Direct Handicap Pace. It broke the mark of 1:54 set by Cam Fella Sept. 4, 1983. Sammy Blue Chip was just two-fifths of a second shy of the fastest mile in Chicago harness racing history, set by Falcon Seelster at Maywood Park last year. Harmer also drove that race.
