Illinois Democratic leaders Saturday agreed to retain the status quo in the party`s system of choosing delegates to the Democratic National Convention. The Democratic State Central Committee, meeting in Springfield, voted to retain a system in which delegates, pledged to presidential candidates or identified as ”uncommitted,” are elected in each of the state`s congressional districts. A separate presidential ”beauty contest”
primary would be conducted simultaneously. The party conducted hearings in the spring on whether to move to a caucus system or a proportional allotment of delegates to candidates based on their primary election results.
