General Motors Corp. said it will end the second shift this week at its Fleetwood-Clark large-car assembly plant in Detroit, indefinitely idling about 3,000 workers. The plant is scheduled to close Dec. 23 and production shifted to Arlington, Tex. The layoffs are part of the giant automaker`s program to close or cut back operations at 11 plants nationwide, eliminating about 30,000 jobs.
