The volume of help-wanted ads in major U.S. newspapers declined in May, but the overall labor picture was still better than that of a year earlier, the Conference Board said. The business-sponsored research organization`s Help-Wanted Advertising Index dropped to 143 in May, one point below April`s level but still 15 points above the year-earlier reading.
