To refer to the Iran-contra hearings as a ”soap opera” is rather interesting. On the level of the cast of characters–the pompous patriots, the mindless mercenaries, the lying lackies and the evasive executive–it does resemble a TV soap.

On another level–the dummy companies, the secret Swiss bank accounts, the alteration and shredding of secret documents, the false statements of government officers to Congress–the ”enterprise” is scarcely a soap opera. On which level is The Tribune reporting the hearings?
