A 34-year-old Carpentersville man convicted of driving while drunk and with a suspended license was sentenced to 18 months in jail Wednesday in the Cook County Circuit Court branch in Des Plaines. Alcide Chartier was arrested March 9 on Ill. Hwy. 72 in Hoffman Estates after police saw him weaving and driving on the shoulder. When police ran a background check, they found Chartier had five previous convictions for drunken driving and three convictions for driving with a suspended license. Under the new law, Chartier was charged with a Class 4 felony for driving while his license was revoked for drunken driving. Judge Richard Salzman also sentenced Chartier to 364 days for driving while intoxicated. The sentences will be served concurrently.
