I have been listening to the Iran-contra hearings since Lt. Col. Oliver North began testifying. And I can`t believe the public response. I can`t believe that people actually are buying this guy`s act. I don`t understand why anyone would put their trust in a man who states, ”There are lies, and then there are lies” (referring, I suppose, once again, to the importance of covert operations).

I don`t deny that covert operations may be effective in certain circumstances. But what everybody seems to be forgetting is that covert operations are not on trial here–the question is whether or not the law was broken, and it was. Not even North denies this. And I find it sickening that people will put their faith in a man who admits that he has misled the Congress of the United States, who admits to taking a lead implementary role in an illegal action.

So I`d like someone to please explain to me why ”Ollie” is a hero for being a scapegoat? I don`t think anyone should feel sorry for this criminal

–and it`s going to be a very sad day when he starts raking in the bucks for the ”Ollie North Story,” as he surely will.
