I enjoyed reading your article on the anti-Arab bias in the United States, ”Arab-Americans fall victim to Mideast,” July 12. Before moving to Saudi Arabia, where I have been living for the past two years, my image of Arabs was close to the stereotype held by many Americans. I saw them as violent and not too bright–an image largely derived from television and movies.
I am now ashamed of my former attitudes. The Arabs I have met in Riyadh are gentle, private and extremely family-oriented. They are among the most hospitable and generous people I have known. It`s a shame that whenever something happens in the Middle East, Arab-Americans in the U.S. should suffer.
