Steve Trout will be on the mound for the Yankees Friday night. Trout was hit hard by Texas Sunday in his first outing since joining the Yankees from the Cubs, giving up nine hits and five runs in five innings. The Rangers eventually won the game 20-3. The game got so out of hand, catcher Rick Cerone pitched the final inning for the Yankees.
Trout is pitching in Comiskey Park for the first time since the Sox traded him to the Cubs in January, 1983. He was the Sox`s No. 1 draft pick in 1976.
The Yankees` Don Mattingly, who missed two games in Minnesota with a sore wrist, is expected to return to action against the Sox.
Bill Buckner, released Thursday by Boston, will not wind up in a White Sox uniform. ”I can`t see any reason why we`d be interested in Bill Buckner,”
said General Manager Larry Himes. ”We already have Greg Walker at first base and Harold Baines at DH.”
Broadcaster Don Drysdale`s wife, the former Ann Meyers, gave birth to the couple`s first child Thursday. Donald Scott Drysdale Jr. arrived on his father`s 51st birthday. Drysdale was a Hall-of-Fame pitcher, and his wife was a basketball star at UCLA.
WMAQ`s Jerry Kuc will join Lorn Brown in the radio booth Friday and Saturday. He`ll fill in for Del Crandall, who is attending his son`s wedding.
