Joan Beck`s column entitled ”House gives elderly a catastrophic care plan–and bill” is very informative.
News reports have neglected to explain that the legislation passed by the House expanding Medicare coverage does not cover chronic nursing home care, and as Ms. Beck explains, ”It`s nursing home bills for Alzheimer`s disease, dementia, senility and the disability caused by stroke, broken hips, arthritis and osteoporosis and similar problems that can bankrupt older people.”
To say the least, the title ”Medicare Catastrophic Protection Act” is deceiving and, if this legislation becomes law, a great number of senior citizens will be paying dearly for coverage that they assume they have but actually do not.
