Two recent studies add to the evidence that smoking marijuana can damage the health.

According to research at Argonne National Laboratory, marijuana can suppress the body`s immune system by keeping normal blood cells from maturing properly. The research involved dosages about equivalent to those absorbed by a typical smoker of one or two marijuana cigarettes a day.

The other study, at Harvard Medical School, found that marijuana also can impair the reproductive capacity of women. When women smoked a single marijuana cigarette after ovulation, the study found, there was a decrease in luteinizing hormone, needed for egg implantation on the uterine wall.
