The Commerce Department tentatively ruled that Japanese companies are illegally ”dumping” roller bearings in this country by selling them at prices that fail to reflect sharp increases in the value of the Japanese yen. The ruling stemmed from a complaint filed by Timken Co. of Canton, Ohio. The Commerce Department singled out Koyo Seiko Co. Ltd., charged with selling roller-bearing products at 70.44 percent of their fair-market value, and NPN Poyo Bearing Co. Ltd., charged with selling products at 47.05 percent of market value.
