Opponents of Robert Bork`s nomination to the Supreme Court see it as an attempt by ”extreme conservatives” to ”impose their agenda.” On the contrary, Judge Bork believes in judicial restraint–adherence to the laws and Constitution as written (and, when necessary, their legislative history), rather than to judges` personal preferences.
Despite Teddy Kennedy`s hysterics, Bork would not ban abortion or affirmative action; he would return these matters to their proper forum–the democratically elected legislatures.
Bork`s opponents know the public opposes their leftist schemes–so they depend on an ”activist” judicial oligarchy, and fear a return to
”government by consent of the governed” under Supreme Court Justice Bork.
