Your article ”New lottery chief to `keep up hype”` indicates the current Illinois State Lottery advertising/public relations gimmicks will be continued and increased. The trouble with them is that they range from shading the truth to outright distortion of reality.

Other than Mike Wittkowski`s yearly payment, what other winner of any type of lottery, at any time, has received a ”cool million”–or any million dollars?

Answer: None!

If the 20-year payment doesn`t assure no one becomes an ”instant”

millionaire, the government grab for tax dollars will guarantee there will not be any quickie millionaires from any lottery game–unless the prize goes above $40 million and one person wins.

Enlarged checks stating ”one million dollars” look good on TV and in the press–but they are a fabrication. Advertising billboards sound tempting –but they promise illusion based on verbal lies.

If Sharon Sharp wants to keep up the hype, as she says, let her add one word to that message: Keep up the honesty! It isn`t being done now.
