Initial claims for state unemployment insurance on a seasonally adjusted basis fell 8,000 in the week ended Aug. 8, to 321,000 from 329,000 the week before, the Labor Department reported. In the week ended Aug. 1, a total of 2.32 million people were receiving state unemployment benefits, a decline of 7,000 from the preceding week.
