Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone said his country will make an all-out research effort on superconductivity with an initial budget of $48 million. Superconductivity aims to develop materials that can conduct electricity with negligible loss of power. Scientists hope that
superconducting materials will supply an almost everlasting supply of cheap electricity, making magnets of massive power and small computers that would work at incredible speeds.
