Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

General Manager Larry Himes said he doesn`t anticipate any action before midnight on Monday. That`s the deadline for a contender to add a player who will be eligible for the playoffs. ”We`ve got all of our calls out,” Himes said. ”They know what we`ve got.”

Himes said he did receive a call from the Mets Saturday after pitcher Sid Fernandez went down with arm problems. The Sox had been talking with the Mets about Floyd Bannister. However, Himes said, ”We have nothing going on with the Mets.”

– The club expects to announce Monday the minor leaguers who will be brought up after Sept. 1. ”We`ll only have four or five guys,” Himes said.

– Bob James, who was reactivated Saturday, returned to California Sunday to be with his father, who is very ill.

– Ozzie Guillen`s status remains day-to-day after he suffered a knee injury in Saturday`s game. Sox manager Jim Fregosi kept him out of the lineup Sunday.

”He`s sore,” Fregosi said. ”There`s no swelling. He probably hyperextended it.”

Bobby Thigpen, out with a bad shoulder since Monday, is expected to be ready for Monday`s game.

– Fregosi had Harold Baines on the bench for the second straight day. He hopes the rest will shake Baines out of his slump. He`s just 11 for 66 (.167) since Aug. 8. He`s gone without a homer in his last 19 games, and he has only one since July 24, when he broke the team`s all-time record.

– Ken Patterson, the pitcher the Sox acquired from the Yankees for Jerry Royster, picked up two saves for Hawaii this week. Himes said his reports say the left-hander has been throwing between 87 and 92 miles per hour.

– Jose DeLeon (7-11) will try for his third straight victory when he meets Danny Jackson (7-15) in the series finale Monday night.
