Virgil Hill dethroned World Boxing Association light-heavyweight champion Leslie Stewart, stopping him after four rounds of a scheduled 15-round bout Saturday in Atlantic City. Hill, a middleweight silver medalist for the U.S. in the 1984 Olympics, floored Stewart twice with left hooks in the fourth. Stewart rose on the count of seven the first time but absorbed another left hook that drove him to the floor near the end of the round. The bell sounded midway through the count as Stewart tried to rise. But as Stewart wobbled around the ring, referee Vincent Rainone stopped the fight. Hill joins Evander Holyfield and Mark Breland as 1984 Olympians to win a world title.

Sot Chitalada knocked out Raeki Ahn with a straight left to the nose in the fourth round to retain his World Boxing Council flyweight championship in Bangkok, Thailand. . . . South Korean challenger Chang Ho-Choi knocked out Filipino Dodie Boy Penalosa 2:07 into the 11th round to capture the International Boxing Federation flyweight championship in Manila.

Heavyweight boxer Mitchell Green, picked up by police last week after they found drugs in his car, was arrested again early Saturday when he refused to pay a toll on the Whitestone Bridge in New York. Green, whose driver`s license has been suspended 54 times, was charged with disorderly conduct and driving while intoxicated. Green`s claim to fame was losing a 10-round decision to current heavyweight champ Mike Tyson in May of 1986.

Seattle SuperSonics guard Eddie Johnson has been arrested on bad-check charges and has been suspended from the National Basketball Association for failing to follow through on drug counseling. Johnson, 31, was arrested in his hometown of Atlanta on Wednesday on charges of writing bad checks and theft of services, said Cal Jackson of the Atlanta police. The suspension was disclosed by Sonics president Bob Whitsitt, who said Johnson had failed to follow through on after-care, the periodic drug counseling that is required by the players union and the league for players who have been treated for drug dependency. Johnson was treated for cocaine addiction in 1986 while playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Richard Vivien of France outsprinted a lead group of six racers to win the 109-mile amateur men`s road race of the World Cycling Championships in Villach, Austria. Vivien beat Hartmut Bolts of West Germany by two bike lengths with a time of 4:12:47.

The U.S. women`s national volleyball team outlasted Japan 15-10, 15-9, 10-15, 7-15, 15-11 in Toyohashi, Japan. Caren Kemner scored six spike points and one block point.
